Brugia fabric, made of 100% wool. A lightweight and elegant 100% natural fabric.
Sheep's wool is the only naturally occurring insulating material that keeps you warm and protects you from heat, cold and moisture. The uniqueness of the raw fibre sheep's wool also makes it a material with unique advantages in its end product.
This fabric is perfect for vestments (chasubles, dalmatics, stoles) and albs.
Not recommended for altar- and lectern covers due to stricter maintenance criteria.
Ironing
We strongly recommend ironing our wool fabrics only, at low temperature, when the fabrics is wrinkled. Set your iron on the wool setting and avoid ironing the fabric when it is totally dry.
Hand Washing
Use a mild detergent in lukewarm water, dont use hot water. Avoid bleach as it dissolves wool fabric. Soak for four to five minutes and then gently squeeze. Rinse thoroughly with cool water to remove all the traces of detergent. Dry on a flat surface, reshape if necessary. Do not expose it to direct sunlight or heat. Never use dryer for woolens, it may result in shrinkages.
Removing stains
For the best removal, stains should be treated as soon as possible to prevent them from getting absorbed in to the fabric.
Cloths with stubborn stain like paints, dyes, etc should be treated by dry cleaners. Stains should be removed before pressing otherwise it will set in wool fabrics.
Dry cleaning
Give cloths to a reliable dry cleaner only and clearly mention that the cleaning requires a wool program. Identify if any spots or stains need to be given special treatment.
Dry clean only with petroleum solvent, if not available with perchlorenthylene. very short cycle.
Storing wool paraments
Keeping woolens clean and dry in storage is the most effective protection. In addition to this make sure that woolens are 100 percent dirt free before packing. Not only cloths but closets, trunks clean, and dresser drawers should also be clean. Keep woolen fabrics in airtight containers like well sealed bags or trunks with secure lids. Storing at temperature of 40 degrees or lower discourages infestation.
Moth problem
Very few insects are able to attack woolen as it is difficult for them to digest wool. Among the few are: larvae of the webbing clothes moths -Tineola bisselliella and the carpet beetles -Dermestidae. For their growth they require Vitamin B as a nutrient, which they can get from soil and perspiration present in the woolen fabrics. So it is necessary to keep woolens dry and clean in order to avoid their attacks. Please when not in use always keep a wool parament in a garment bag.
Techniques
We offer several techniques that can be used to decorate the paraments. A technique also requires a specific washing instructions.
Please keep following in mind for maintance :
- Hand embroidery : hand wash only with lukewarm water, no bleach. Only very mild detergent. Parament can not be machine washed or taken to dry cleaner. Before washing any vintage or antique pieces, check the fiber content and test the fibers to see if they can withstand washing. Some fibers can't be washed in soap and water, and older pieces might not be sturdy enough. To test a piece, crinkle it gently in your hands while holding it up to your ear. On older pieces, you might hear a gentle crinkling noise as you handle the fabric, which indicates that fibers are breaking. Do not wash a piece that crinkles because this will cause further damage and the piece could disintegrate in the wash.
Newly completed embroidered projects in good condition that have been worked in cotton embroidery thread often need just minimal cleaning, or just need to be vacuumed using a clean piece of nylon cover placed over the vacuum hose (worn-out pantyhose and knee-high stockings are perfect for this). Heavily soiled items might need a mild bath. Hand embroidery that need a thorough cleaning can be freshened easily in room-temperature water with a mild soap like Orvus paste or sodium borate (aka borax) dissolved in water with a ratio of 1 teaspoon per gallon. Allow the piece to soak for 15 to 20 minutes to loosen and release dirt and accumulated debris. Rinse thoroughly after soaking at least twice with clean, room-temperature water.
- Machine embroidery : is machine washable or can be taken to a dry cleaner. However, the maintenance instructions of the fabric needs to be followed first. A machine embroidery on a wool vestment f.ex. does require the washing instructions for wool.
- Application technique : give to a reliable dry cleaner only, can not be machine washed. Please always clearly ask that the parament is correctly cleaned according to the composition of the fabric.
- Digital printing : is machine washable or can be taken to a dry cleaner. However, the maintenance instructions of the fabric needs to be followed first. A digital printed symbol on a wool vestment f.ex. does require the washing instructions for wool.
